How to Clean and Sanitise Playgrounds in a Post COVID World.

In the past, playgrounds were often cleaned with household cleaning products. In a post COVID world however, it is best left to the professionals, here’s why.

Playgrounds are great fun and important in our children’s development. However, if there is a lack of regular cleaning, they can contain harmful germs and bacteria. Thus, it is important for children’s health that playgrounds be properly and regularly cleaned and sanitized.

Previous cleaning practices of playgrounds are now more likely to do more harm than good and possibly be ineffective at killing germs and bacteria.

• Product expiration dates must be checked, as expired products do not disinfect properly.
• Products used need to be compatible with the surface they are being applied to.
• Mixing of chemicals should only be managed by professionals as they can cause damage or toxic gases, e.g. if bleach or ammonia are mixed with other cleansers.
• Protective gear needs to be warn throughout the process.
• High pressure cleaners can damage paint and surfaces if not handled by a trained professional, and even low pressure / wet wash systems, can cause issues if the wrong products are utilised.
